I read this article and wondered what would my Early Years advisors say if they read it. It is such a hard choice between giving parents what they want and allowing children to explore and be “bored”.
Those who know me, know how much I complain about “clever toys” that don’t allow children to use their own imagination.
However, is this approach really good for nurseries? I do agree that judging children against 69 “early larding goals” is an overkill. However, allowing children to explore in a fun controlled environment with “open ended” games seems to work really well.
If children never used their own imagination and never tried to come up with a game, we need to be there to show them how to do it. That is what I think. What do you think?
