Christmas at Gillingham Nursery

6539781159 8e7688e956It’s that time of year again and we can feel the excitement building in the nursery and that’s just the staff!

Every room is busy making Christmas gifts and singing Christmas songs.  Castle room learned a nativity play for our fete which went really well with our little Mary ,who  lost Joseph on the way to the stable,  stealing the show with a solo  part that melted everyone’s hearts and gave us all an overload of cuteness.  Father Christmas was here giving out presents in his grotto and a couple of children were reluctant to get too close so toddled halfway to receive their chocolate coins, others were quite happy to recite their whole Christmas wish list to him. We had more stalls this year including our usual raffle and a few of the parents had stalls which was really nice and we intend to promote this in the future. Each room organised their own stalls which included snow pong  where the children had to throw foil balls into jars to get a prize, there was a wooden advent calendar which the children chose a number and got a prize as with hook a candy cane game, they made reindeer food, had their face painted and made snowman biscuits and when they were finished enjoying all that there were plenty of refreshments to be had.

Jungle room had a Christmas stay, play and sing song for the parents to enjoy, they made jingle bells out of bells, cups and pipecleaners  with their parents to use while singing their songs and had a party tea which all enjoyed.

Baby room are having their Christmas stay and play tomorrow and they will be making Christmas tree baubles with their parents out of jar lids and photos and enjoying a party tea.

We have all been dressed up all week to celebrate Christmas and took part in Christmas jumper day last week the children with all the children and staff taking part.

In addition to this they have learned how to stick lolly sticks together to make snowflakes and have been practising their cutting skills with support and castle room made Christmas hats for their Christmas dinner day.

Babies have been exploring the playdough and making marks with their fingers and enjoy squidging it in their fingers they have also been experimenting with the musical instruments, cars have been popular this week and the home corner where they have been role playing ironing.

Castle room have been learning big and small with various objects in their room and have their own mini Christmas tree which they decorate themselves every day  with various beads and baubles and as part of our parent partnership parents have been asked to make a bauble with their children at home and bring it in to show.

Jungle room have been learning about icicles and how they melt as one of their Christmas songs was 5 little icicles so they made icicles to show how they melt so that they could associate it with the song.
