Gillingham Nursery had Fun This Week

Hi Guys,

In these crazy times, Gillingham Nursery children are having fun like no other. We work very hard to keep the routine and a sense of normalcy going even at these strange and scary times.

Pre-Schoolers were creating their place mats this week, not only they had fun creating these amazing mats that are unique to each child but they were also learning letters and to recognise their own name!

Dotty Names!

What you’ll need

  • Paper

  • Marker Pen

  • Cotton bud

  • Paint

  • Laminator (Optional)

.School readiness activity!

This activity will provide children to become familiar at recognising letters or their full name. Doing the dotty mark making will encourage them to look at the shapes of the letters in their name and make connections when reading their name on tags . This may ecnourage children to begin to write letters of their name once they are familiar with the shapes of the letters and movements they need to make

Once they have finished their masterpiece, and adult can laminate the end result and use as a placemat. Every meal time will then be an oppotunity to learn and recognise their own name.

Children also got to decorate their own biscuits this week!

What you’ll need

  • Paper

  • Scissors

  • Marker Pen

An adult can draw patterns of their choice on a strip of paper to encourage them to cut along the line.

For beginners it would be ideal to do short llines on the edge so they can do small snips. As the children become confident in holding the scissors correctly and begin to cut a continuous line,

This activity will alllow adults to observe children using one handed equipment and their control. Its an ideal oppotunity to talk to children what the tool is used for and using the equipment safely. Adults can talk to children about what patterns or shapes they can see when they have finished cutting.
