Hi everyone, we are half way through our wear red for ruby week and we are really starting to gain momentum with the fund raising. So far our total is just over £70 please help us to raise as much as possible. We have cakes to sell as well so please come along and buy a cake. All we are asking is for £1 for ruby. She deserves so much more.
So what are the children do at the moment, the children are having lots of fun getting ready for mothers day, it a time of year to celebrate the mothers out there who can often go without recognition and praise for long periods of time. (Dads the same its just not your day yet 
)
We have been making cards and many other things in the Jungle Room and Preschool are busy doing all there arty things as well. Some times we need to remember that children don’t always understand why we make cards and they would rather do something else with there ideas. So we have been encouraging them and explaining the reasons behind cards, this is a good way to give the children a little history.

he custom of sending greeting cards can be traced back to the ancient Chinese, who exchanged messages of good will to celebrate the New Year, and to the early Egyptians, who conveyed their greetings on papyrus scrolls. By the early 15th century, handmade paper greeting cards were being exchanged in Europe. The Germans are known to have printed New Year’s greetings from woodcuts as early as 1400, and handmade paper Valentines were being exchanged in various parts of Europe in the early to mid-15th century, with the oldest Valentine in existence being in the British Museum.
By the 1850s, the greeting card had been transformed from a relatively expensive, handmade and hand-delivered gift to a popular and affordable means of personal communication, due largely to advances in printing, mechanization, and a reduction in postal rates with the introduction of the postage stamp.
So we can trace card sending a long way back, but with the introduction of emails and text we are losing the art of sending cards, most of us can relate to only ever getting bills in the post. I myself don’t even get that now i even get bills by email, so to me I love getting cards on mothers day. That’s why we are working really hard with the children to make sure that we all get one in one shape or another. Just a note to say I Love You really.
